New Television Play-By-Play Announcer Named For Wizards' Games
|
Speaking of staying tuned (see the previous article), Home Team Sports, which owns the television broadcast rights to Wizards games, have reached an agreement with Steve Buckhantz to be the play-by-play announcer when the new season begins, according to Leonard Shapiro of the Washington Post. Buckhantz will replace Mel Proctor, who left the job in March, in teaming with Phil Chenier for team broadcasts.Steve Buckhantz is currently the weekday nightly sportscaster for WTTG-TV-5 in the Washington, DC market. He also does play-by-play for college athletics, including both radio and TV for college football, and also some play-by-play for the NFL on Fox Sports.
No replacement for Buckhantz has been named. There is a possibility that he will remain at WTTG-TV-5, though in a reduced role.
I like Steve Buckhantz. He's got an agreeable on-air personality and is very knowledgeable about a lot of sports. He's a good addition to the broadcast team, and I think you'll like him. I look forward to watching his play-by-play on games that I cannot attend.
