Bullets Rip Raptors In Second Half
|
27 December 1996. Washington Bullets 100, Toronto Raptors 82 (record: 14-13)
Game leaders: Webber (25 points), Webber (13 rebounds), Strickland (10 assists)A very satisfying win, at least in the second half. The Raptors came out smoking, especially from 3-point range. Walt Williams, Doug Christie, and Damon Stoudamire all were filling it up from outside in the early going, while the Bullets forgot about this team's propensity to bomb away.
However, the Bullets ground their way back into it and the Raptors shooting went cold. The Bullets built a 6-point lead at halftime, then took control in the middle of the third quarter. With the game tied at 64 at the 3:16 mark in the third, the Bullets held the Raptors to 2 points during a 9-minute stretch going into the fourth quarter (at 6:03). During that stretch, the Bullets forced 9 turnovers and blocked 2 shots and held a 14-point lead.
The Bullets aren't satisfied with their recent play. After the game, Juwan Howard said: "We've got to stop playing see-saw with this .500 thing. We've got to get us a nice streak going. I was disappointed that we didn't go 6-0 on the road. That's behind us, we just have to move forward and win these next games. Now is the time when we have to make a turnaround." Amen to that!
However, the difference between the first and second halves is getting apparent. I'm not sure what the difference is, but whatever it is, it works. Let's keep it up.
