Grizzlies Shred Bullets In Second Half Turnaround
|
22 December 1996. Vancouver Grizzlies 91, Washington Bullets 87 (record: 12-13)
Game leaders: Strickland (23 points), Webber (11 rebounds), Strickland (10 assists)This is whole embarassing. The Grizzlies have been down by at least 10 points in the 4th quarter 15 times this season and have never come back to win. Until now, courtesy of the choking-dog Bullets.
Muresan struggled all game (4 points in 31 minutes), but the Bullets as a team fell apart after racing out to a 52-41 halftime lead. The Bullets scored 6 points in the first 10 minutes of the 3rd quarter and 5 points in the first 5 minutes of the 4th quarter to allow the Grizzlies all of the chances they needed to win. In particular, they got scorched by Anthony Peeler (27 points, including 5 of 6 on 3-pointers) and rookie Shareef Abdur-Rahim (24 points).
This is bad. The team had a 2 day lay-off, play a solid half, and then zone out. This team, unfortunately, too often plays down (or up) to the level of their opponent. Let's hope that this isn't becoming a more permenent trend.
