Bullets Misfire As Pistons Smoothly Roll

12 November 1996. Detroit Pistons 92, Washington Bullets 79 (record: 2-4)
Game leaders: Webber (19 points), Howard (11 rebounds), Strickland (6 assists)
There aren't many words to describe what yesterday's offensive display looked like. It was ugly. At one point, the Bullets were down 26 points in the 2nd quarter, and the Pistons were shooting 60% from the fieid while the Bullets shot at tad over 22%. The Bullets had exactly 30 points at halftime and never seriously threatened the Pistons lead. It really wasn't worth it, was it?
Honoring The 50 Best On Monday, the Bullets honored Wes Unseld and Earl Monroe for their selection among the 50 greatest NBA players of all time. Juwan Howard finally shot 50% from the field, and Webber played okay, but the rest of the starters (including Muresan) were 6 of 23 from the field. The Pistons eventually wound up shooting around 44%, but the damage was done.
Also, it's time to bench Calbert Cheaney. He had 5 points in the game, unacceptable from the shooting guard. Start Jaren Jackson, who is shooting more confidently and accurately from the field and is playing better defense. At least he stayed with Grant Hill on several occasions, although Hill was still to smooth to stop. Even Tracy Murray is hustling, though his shots aren't falling. So, I say - Cheaney out, Jackson in.
