We knew it was coming, now it's official. CWebb has accepted the invitation to play on the USA Basketball team that will defend its title at the World Championships in Athen, Greece next summer. He joins 9 other players on the initial cut of the team, which will be coached by Houston Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich. Two more players will be added to the list in the spring of 1998 to complete the roster.
One thing you might note from reviewing the roster is that there isn't a center on the team. CWebb, Vin Baker, and Christian Laettner are the closest players to a center you have. This is caused in part because Shaquille O'Neal turned down the opportunity to be on the team; Tom Gugliotta apparently replaced him on the roster. Just an interesting side note.
Congrats, CWebb. Just don't come back with the injury bug in 1998-99, like a lot of players who compete during the summer in international games.
