Early Report: Strickland Arrested On DUI Charges in DC
|
Not again. (Although at least it perks up the news front.) Barely 10 months after the Juwan Howard incident, another Wizard is arrested on DUI charges.Rod Strickland was arrested last night near New York Avenue and 3rd Street, NE after making an illegal left turn and being pulled over. Said Capt. Dewey Wiseman: "He [the arresting officer] stopped the vehicle at that time. He had a scenario where Mr. Strickland appeared to be intoxicated and he was a little disorderly and that resulted in the arrest." Strickland was also charged with disorderly conduct and failing to show his driver's license.
This may have further complications for Strickland. It's unclear what, if any, ramifications this would have with regards to his probation on an assault charge in New York. I do not know if his probation is still in effect nor whether the DUI would affect his probation status. (Not having gone through this, I still believe that it could impact him.) More on this as it's discovered.
And it's totally appropos that this happens on the night that ESPN had a great television special on Sports Under Arrest. If you didn't watch it, you missed some good reporting.
And is it just me, or are there more problems with NBA players this past off-season than there have been in previous seasons? Just take a look at the rap sheet through August on NBA players. Though the NBA is not the only league with this problem, it's got to be troubling to David Stern and the owners (and hopefully the player's union, too).
More on the Strickland incident as it becomes available.
