The Hype Machine Kicks In As The Bullets Meet The Heat
|
Normally, I wouldn't consider dedicating a full page to a pre-game writeup, but this has earned. After all, tonight is the night that Juwan gets to face his once-past "teammates" and coach in Miami. That entire month he was on their roster. Is this a big game? It's kinda like a CWebb reunion in Golden State - the locals love a villain. Juwan is sure to hear it from all sides, and he says he's getting himself ready for it. We'll see.
Juwan is definitely learning the side of being a highly-paid, high-visibility superstar in the league. Everyone wants your time, your attention. You become larger than life, in some ways. Juwan just tries to live it - he wishes he didn't attract all of the attention, but he realizes that the attention can bring some added benefits as well.
Meanwhile, the grousing continues in Miami. You can guarantee that Pat Riley wants to win this game more than just about anything. ESPNet Sportszone gives you some interesting insight into what makes Riley tick and how Riley felt after Juwan dissed him and returned to DC.
Juwan admits that some of the blame for the situation belongs to him, but Sportsline USA's Shaun Powell lays most of it at Juwan's door. I strongly disagree, in particular with his unfounded allegation about where Juwan wanted to be. If Shaun had dug just a little, he would have found numerous quotes about Juwan wanting to stay in DC, but also saying that he has to take care of the business side of things. And in the first take, the Washington Bullets didn't step up to the plate.
